Brief Review
This piece is not widely available but I have a hand-written transcription of the melody in my library.
As far as I can tell this tune was brought to North America from Oaxaca, Mexico by Lilian Mendelssohn, a musicologist with the Smithsonian Institute. There in Oaxaca, she heard two marimba groups led by Faustino González Rivera and captured his marimba bands on tape.
In that early recording, which now resides in the Smithsonian, a three-man marimba band performed this piece and Lilian Mendelssohn explains that during the performance there was a constant river of people and chickens walking by or dancing.
