Brief Review
This book was my very first experience with David Garibaldi's drumming. I remember Jamie, a drumset teacher I had in early high school, said "Buy it". I did, and it opened up a world of ideas. I then began to discover Mr. Garibaldi's many recordings, most notabely his work with Tower of Power.
I had the opportunity in 2000 to see David Garibaldi perform with "Talking Drums" at Arizona State University. Truly awesome.
There are hundreds of drum method books to choose from, but this particular book is interesting because David Garibaldi's recording career has been so successful that not only can a student study the book, but they can hear the man play and recognize his philosophy in what they hear.
I'd suggest that this text is an excellent supplement to private drum set study. The book contains:
- Groove Studies
- Four-Bar Patterns
- Permutation Studies
- Funk Drumming
- Random Ideas
Additional Information
This book was voted #10 by Modern Drummer in the "25 Best Drum Books" (August 1993).
I believe that the book was sold with a CD...but I've lost it.
